Avoid going to high-end shopping malls and splashing out on branded goods when you can find better deals for items online. You can also sell unwanted goods (such as textbooks) while you’re there. Cut down on unnecessary luxuries including branded goods, high-end cosmetics, cigarettes, takeaway coffee and lottery tickets. This is not about living a Spartan lifestyle where you deny yourself the items you want, but if there’s something that tempts you, resist buying it until you’ve saved up enough and shopped around for the best price – you may realise there’s something you’d rather spend your money on.
